Introduction to Watercolor

- Supplies

Welcome to Watercolor for Beginners!

Watercolor painting is a wonderful hobby!

I hope to inspire to you to begin in earnest, and continue to learn long after after our class is finished.

Supply list may sound daunting, but you are more likely to succeed if you have invested in the tools

for your new hobby. Trust me on this!

We will complete several projects including: greeting cards, a color chart, several beautiful images of

coy fish, trees, florals, and 2 large landscapes if time allows. We will also learn beginning concepts of

perspective and composition.

The most important ingredient for your success is attitude!

Next most important is good paper, and decent paint.

OK, here is what you will need outlined below.

Class Supplies needed:

You will bring these:

-Paint brushes: Hobby Lobby quality is fine.

#8, #10, #12, 1/4”flat, and a rigger ( a very fine brush size #2).

-Paints: If budget allows, tube paints are the best. Amazon is a good source. And student grade is

sufficient. But you can get a great start with a good set of Pan Watercolors, kind of like what you used

as a kid.

Here are the basic colors you need:

Cobalt Blue

Aureolin

Quinacrodone Gold

Rose

Cadmium Red

Cadmium Orange

-Paper: Strathmore Watercolor Paper is fine to start with. Comes in a pad, 9 x 12.

Arches is the very best, but is not cheap. Well worth it as you progress, and this is so important!

Misc supplies:

Plastic container for water

small spray bottle for water

hairdryer

blue painters tape

I provide:

Foam core boards to tape your paper to

paper towels and rags
