Art Classes and Tours
Peoria area’s newest and largest art gallery—Artful Journey—will be hosting art classes for homeschool students starting this fall. They will be taught by a veteran homeschooling mom and art teacher, Shari Pittenger, who is also one of the gallery’s artists.
The first semester’s classes will focus on drawing skills and improving your work by incorporating the elements of art such as color, line, texture, etc. The second semester will build on the first semester’s class content and will cover a variety of related subject matter such as lettering, graphic design, optical illusions, sculpture, etc. Each class will include a Bible verse and brief presentation of how this verse relates to the art world or a quote from an artist and how it relates to Scripture. We will work on a project in class and there will also be art homework.
There will be 12 classes per semester available to ages 12 and up. They will be held on Thursday afternoons from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the classroom portion of the gallery with the first class beginning on Thursday, August 28. The cost is $120.00 per semester. You will be responsible for your own supplies—which many of you may already have. You can sign up by sending a check for $120.00 payable to Artful Journey Gallery (at the address below) or sign up online (which includes a $4.00 processing fee). Please contact Shari Pittenger at ascendingartsdesign@gmail.com with your questions.
In addition, we are available for tours for you and your family and/or co-op. This is a very family-friendly gallery full of the work of very talented local artists. Please keep in mind though, that some of the art is very fragile and expensive and for the artists’ sake, we have the “you break it—you buy it” policy.
Please call the gallery at 309-632-4701 to schedule a time.
We hope to see many of you there soon so we can assist with you and your family’s “artful journey”!
