Breaking Free!

In this community art project, participants learn the meditative folk art of Pysanky, wax batik on eggshell. The completed eggs will be transformed into mixed-media paintings that symbolize “breaking out of our shell.”

This is a three-week project and additional time to work on the project will be set up as needed. Participants can be ages 12+ and they will learn hands-on techniques at no cost and see their work professionally framed and exhibited. By pairing skill-building with a public showcase (and optional sales that benefit participants), the project grows confidence, voice, and visibility for emerging local artists.

The project is made possible in part by support from ArtsPartners, Illinois Arts Council, the Community Foundation of Central Illinois and Artful Journey Gallery. It would be excellent to have widespread participation.
