Artist Statement 

Each painting starts with a wildly gestural abstract background. As a dancer for over twenty years, this part of the process is so satisfying and freeing for me. It allows me to let go of control and let the paint show me what it wants to be. This abstract portion of the painting represents Spirit in my mind, how we can’t always understand its process, yet its movements and influence are still evident and beautiful. Once I reach satisfaction with the background, I add a figure, which for me represents the more tangible human experience.

I love to paint women and nature, two aspects that exhibit the natural curves of our world. Live painting with musicians is my favorite type of expression. I studied for my art therapy practitioner certification and now spend a majority of my time teaching others how to use art as a healing tool and playful experience from a neuroscientific perspective. These particular pieces come from my Incantations of the Present exhibition, a collection of paintings, poems, and digital designs that seeks to make the metaphysical more tangible and give you a taste of Source’s Love.
