Chris Chapman
My work is the result of a lifelong dialogue with the canvas—a language developed over sixty years of observation, trial, and discovery. As an artist driven by a personal, intuitive path rather than formal academic training, my process is guided by instinct. This freedom allows me to move fluidly between impressionistic landscapes and bold caricatures, focusing on the spirit and character of a subject rather than a strictly literal interpretation.
In this collection, I lean into the familiar atmospheres of the American Midwest. From the structural silhouette of a crop elevator to the quiet energy of a rural town, I aim to capture the "feeling" of the heartland through vibrant acrylic and gouache paints and expressive drawings. My daily practice—including my ongoing "Doodle of the Day" series posted on social media—keeps my perspective perpetually curious, ensuring that every piece remains an exploration of color, form, and narrative.
Ultimately, I seek to present a perspective that is seasoned by time yet alive with spontaneity, inviting the viewer to find their own connection to these scenes.
