Bennett Johnson
Artist Statement
Photography has been my creative outlet for years. My subject matter varies widely based on what moves me and is inevitably autobiographical. Art is always an inspiration. Momentary natural light often defines subjects in new ways. Being on the hunt and capturing the moment is my life pursuit. Sharing with others through exhibits, lectures, and design has been gratifying for over sixty years. I appreciate being able to celebrate LIFE!
Retired architect from Chicago. You might know two of his projects, Chicago’s first Crate & Barrel in Old Town and the first seven stations for the Metro in Washington, D.C. Upon retirement he moved to Peoria to join his wife, Kristan McKinsey, in their 1937 Moderne home, filled with Art Deco furnishings collected while he was president of the Chicago Art Deco Society. Photography has been a passion since Johnson’s youth. Currently he is a member of the Fine Arts Society and the Peoria Photo Club. His prints have won awards in competitions and exhibits. His studio is at the Contemporary Art Center (3R). “Good eye and great color” are some common reactions to his photos.
